From Bogotá, the daughter of José Acevedo y Gómez and Catalina Sánchez de Tejada. She, her mother and sisters fled Morillo in 1816 and lived in the jungle. Her father died in 1817. The survivors returned to Bogotá in 1819 after the victory of Boyacá. (Monsalve, 237)
