Born in San Luis, Argentina, she married Sergeant Dionisio Hernández. She was one of four women authorised by San Martín to accompany their husbands into battle. In 1822 she fought for the independence troops dressed in a military uniform and armed with a sabre and pistols. She also brought water to the wounded soldiers. (Sosa de Newton, 473)
