Born in 1792, she was the daughter of María de la Concepción Merlo y Velázquez and José Riera. She married Vicente López on 1 March 1814. He was then secretary of the Asamblea Constituyente, and wrote the national anthem. She became a member of the Sociedad de Beneficencia, Buenos Aires, on 21 January 1825. (Sosa de Newton, 536)
