NunsBiography:
From a privileged family in Santiago de Estero, she became a beata and raised funds to build a place for men and women seeking spiritual solace following the expulsion of the Jesuits. She eventually founded a House of Spiritual Exercises in Buenos Aires in 1780. Pilgrims took part in 16 hour sessions of prayer. This casa replaced the women's prison and Sor María worked with the inmates giving spiritual guidance. She died in 1799. (Socolow, 108)
