Biography:
He is described by Frances Calderón de la Barca as, “a friend of ours, professor of botany, and considered a man of learning”. (Calderón de la Barca, 525)

The publication, El Mosaico Megicano, was around in 1840. In it were translated articles, scientific papers possibly written by José María Bustamente.

R.W. Hardy describes him as “a mineralogist. This gentleman possesses a great deal of real science, and is, withal, most modest and unassuming. He is a man of great liberality, and of very gentlemanly manners.” He attended political and literary tertulias in Mexico City in 1827. (Hardy, 513)
