She was born around 1699, in Cancuc, Yucatán, Mexico. In 1712 she is said to have been visited by the Virgin who told her that the Spanish God was dead and had been replaced by an Indian redeemer. She took an active part in the Tzeltal rebellion that followed, ordaining Indian priests and ordered the execution of a friar. (Socolow, 160)
