Biography:
He is described as a Knight of the Royal and Distinguished Order of Charles III. He was probably English. In 1830 he wrote an account of his travels in Peru and his year-long stay in Potosí. He also travelled in Argentina.
He spoke Spanish and described the manners and customs of South Americans. He arrived in Buenos Aires and travelled by road to Cordova and to Tucumán province. (He stated that the 550 mile route could be shortened by 100 miles if the switchbacks and diversions were removed.) This anonymous review of Temple’s book, Travels in various Parts of Peru, including a Year’s Residence in Potosi, includes the extract below from when Temple's party stayed at the home of Don José Torres, near to San Miguel del Tucumán, Argentina.
