Ana Edeltrudes de Menezes was born in Rio de Janeiro on 3 February 1825, daughter of the doctor Manoel Joaquim de Menezes and Eufemia Marciana de Menezes. She published various poems in the Carioca press including the Jornal do Comércio, the Correio Mercantil, the Jornal das Senhoras, Ensaios Literários and the Médico do Povo.
