In July 1816 she was arrested on the orders of royalist general Manuel de la Conche and sent to Mexico City where she was imprisoned along with her husband José Pioqunto Hurtado. He was a patriot who had taken part in the battle of Zempoala. (Miquel i Vergés, 223)
