The sister of cacique, pro-independence, José Rosa Ara, used her house at Tacna, Peru, for secret meetings at which propaganda material was printed. She created a circle of patriotic women in Tacna at which they collected funds for the campaign, edited propaganda leaflets, and prepared strategic places to hide patriots in danger (Balta, 29-30).
