She was one of the first women to be imprisoned for her work smuggling messages for the patriots, but she managed to escape from the hospital where she was held. Once free she continued to smuggle correspondence in the Lima mist without fear of further imprisonment as it was difficult to distinguish one woman from another. (García y García, 250)
She was awarded the Orden del Sol by San Martín in 1822. (Gaceta de Lima, 23-1-1822, p.4)
