1) Funding opportunity in satellite navigation
On the 19th January Innovate UK will be launching a £1m competition to stimulate some additional innovation in the area of GNSS receivers and specifically addressing what the European Galileo system can do to make a difference to operational systems. There will be a briefing event on the 21st January at the Satellite Applications Catapult in Harwell regarding the details of the scope. 2) Innovate UK / UKSA satellite propulsion competition
Innovate UK and the UK Space Agency are to invest up to £2m in collaborative R&D projects to support continued business and technical innovation in in-orbit spacecraft propulsion systems, improving the commercial benefits and/or performance of future space missions. Competition opens: 19th January 2015. Registration deadline: 11th March 2015 (12 noon). Application deadline: 18th March 2015 (12 noon). 3) Technology inspired innovation
Innovate UK is to invest up to £2m in feasibility studies to stimulate innovation across four enabling technology areas: advanced materials; biosciences; electronics, sensors and photonics; and information and communications. 4) Call for Entrepreneurs for Venture Capital competition at London Business School
The Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) committee is looking for entrepreneurs who are actively seeking a Series A or equivalent round of institutional venture capital funding. Through participating in this competition, entrepreneurs get an opportunity to perfect their pitch and strengthen their business plans while gaining exposure to top VC firms and the VC negotiation process. 5) Fast Track to Innovation
The Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) pilot is a fully-bottom-up measure in Horizon 2020 to promote close-to-the-market innovation activities, and open to all types of participants. Proposals for funding must be submitted by consortia comprising between three and five legal entities established in at least three different EU Member States or countries associated to Horizon 2020. 6) Managing energy on marine vessels
Innovate UK and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (dstl) are to invest up to £7.5m in collaborative R&D projects to improve the ways in which energy is managed on ships and other marine and maritime vessels. This is a two-stage competition that opens for applicants on 12 January 2015. Deadline for expressions of interest: 11 March 2015 (12 noon).
