By completing this resource you will be able to discuss FGM, its prevalence and impact.
Living with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) impacts on individuals, their families and the wider community. Women and girls who have undergone FGM report a wide range of physical and psychological disabling experiences. However many communities perceive FGM as a rite of passage.
In this resource women share their experiences of survivorship following FGM and discuss the cultural factors associated with FGM. The challenge for nursing is to understand the cultural context behind the practice of FGM whilst providing care within a legislative framework.
