Description

women staff meeting

An informal event hosted by the Women’s Staff Networks from the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, with the theme of 'promoting wellbeing'.

Part of the Nottingham universities’ joint celebrations for International Women's Day 2018, this drop-in event will be open to all – whether you’re already a member of the UoN or NTU Women’s Staff Network, or if you’d just like to find out more about what we do.

The event will feature activities centred around the theme of supporting wellbeing in the workplace – including:

  • Wellbeing tree: To help open up discussions on the theme, attendees will be invited to create origami cranes for display on a wellbeing tree. Attendees will be able to write notes on the cranes, detailing what wellbeing means to them, and their ideas for how the Women’s Staff Networks might work to support wellbeing in the workplace. These cranes will later be displayed around UoN and NTU campuses.
  • ‘Sit and knit': In this activity, which will double as a networking opportunity, equipment will be provided to enable attendees to create small ‘bonding squares’ for premature babies and their mothers. Completed squares will be donated to local hospital neonatal units.
  • Cake sale and book swap: The opportunity to buy some delicious homemade cake, and to donate and buy books. All donations will go towards local organisations supporting women’s needs.
  • Sanitary product collection: As part of a campaign running throughout the Nottingham universities’ campuses, a collection point will be in place at the event, enabling volunteers to donate sanitary packs in aid of local charities. The sanitary products will be distributed via Nottingham Women's Centre in the first instance, and will form part of a larger project called 'The Free Period' in the longer term - the aim of which will be to distribute donations widely around Nottingham. Further collection points will be situated around our campuses – look out for further details.

The event will take place from 10am-2pm, Thursday 8 March at the Medical School Foyer, Queen's Medical Centre. There’s no need to book in advance – just drop in!
