European Convention on Human Rights: Environmental Claims; Contemporary Issues
9 February 2022
The Human Rights Law Centre (HRLC) was delighted to host this seminar on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The seminar was held in honour of Emeritus Professor Alastair Mowbray, a leading academic expert on the ECHR, upon his recent retirement from the School of Law, University of Nottingham.
The first session of the seminar explored environmental and climate change claims under the ECHR. There is widespread interest in these issues, particularly after the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) (2021). In additon, climate change is the one specific focus areas of the University of Nottingham’s Research Strategic Delivery Plan 2022-27. The second session considered a number of major contemporary issues under the ECHR.

He has published many books and academic papers on the ECHR. In addition, he has given numerous specialist lectures and seminars on the Convention to academics, judges, lawyers and government officials from a range of countries. His major works include, The Development of Positive Obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights by the European Court of Human Rights and Cases and Materials on The European Convention on Human Rights.
