HRLC's Annual Student Human Rights Conference, organised by a student committee, is a great opportunity for early career researchers, students, academics, practitioners and the general public to participate in discussions and learning about human rights law and practice. The 21st HRLC Annual Conference will be taking place on 13 March 2020 on Forced to Flee: when migration is the only alternative.

The phenomenon of forced migration has existed for centuries. However, over the past few years, it has been steadily increasing to the point that we are currently facing the record number of 70,8 million internally displaced persons and refugees (UNHCR 2019). Therefore, forced displacement can rightfully be considered one of the most serious humanitarian crises of our time.

The Conference aims to analyse the reasons that cause people to leave their life, their home and their country, as well as identify the consequences of this phenomenon. Furthermore, the conference will question the role that states and the international community play in this issue.

Call for Papers

The Student Conference Committee invites the submission of papers addressing any substantive issues from postgraduate students in any discipline on any of the themes outlined in our Call for Papers (PDF). Using the application form (Word), please provide a short abstract of no more than 1,000 words by 1pm, Friday 10 January 2020 and send it to humanrightsconference@nottingham.ac.uk
