HRLC presents
Migration and Human Rights: Perception v Reality
16th Annual Student Human Rights Conference
Saturday 7 March 2015
Migration continues to be a highly debated topic. The ever increasing flow of migrants has led to the radical review of immigration policy at national, regional and international levels. The current discourse raises concerns about the treatment of migrants and poses challenges to the realisation of freedom of movement worldwide. It is therefore important to examine migration within the international human rights framework.
This Conference aims to challenge society's perception of migration and consider the realities attached to it; from the root causes to the limitations of achieving 'global' freedom of movement. What action needs to be taken at national, regional and international levels to combat discrimination and encourage the integration of migrants? What measures can be taken to secure migrants' economic, social and cultural rights? Do we need to do more to protect vulnerable migrants, including women and children? How can combatting modern slavery protect trafficked and exploited migrants?
The Call for Papers for the 2015 Annual Student Human Rights Conference is now available for download. This year, the Student Conference Committee will be welcoming papers for discusion on the themes outlined in the attached Call for Papers that identify timely and contemporary issues on the topic of migration and human rights.
The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to Thursday 15 January 2015. Abstracts can be submitted using the Abstract Application Form.
