On 26 April, Professor Olympia Bekou, head of the International Criminal Justice Unit, delivered a lecture at Oxford University in the frame of the Oxford Public International Law Discussion Group "Marking the 20th Anniversary of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court: Successes and Challenges in the Fight against Impunity". The discussion explored the many successes and challenges that the ICC faces, twenty years after the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Professor Bekou's lecture considered some of the Court's achievements and challenges, especially with respect to the principles of universality, independence, effectiveness and efficiency, which affect the fulfilment of the ICC's mandate to end impunity.
