Professor McCorquodale makes submission to UK Parliament Human Rights Committee

Professor McCorquodale, Head of HRLC Business and Human Rights Unit, recently submitted written evidence to the UK Parliament's Joint Human Rights Committee about responses to COVID-19. He highlighted the limitations of existing government responses to dealing with business activities which have an adverse impact on human rights and affirmed that the conditions which existed prior to the pandemic have been exacerbated by it.

He called on the UK government to ensure its responses to the pandemic are founded on its clear endorsement of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. He also recommended the UK Government to introduce legislation for a corporate duty to prevent human rights and environmental abuses.
