Spotlight on HRLC Fellow

Alice Edwards

Dr Edwards was Lecturer in British Human Rights Law (2006-2009) in the School of Law and Head of HRLC's former Forced Migration and Human Rights Unit. Whilst at HRLC Dr Edwards lead many projects including the Refugee Women Project (PDF) for which she was awarded an Arthur C. Helton Fellowship of the American Society of International Law to conduct fieldwork in Uganda to investigate field implementation of 'gender mainstreaming' approaches to the rights of refugee women.

On leaving Nottingham, Dr Edwards took up the post of Lecturer in International Human Rights and Refugee Law 2009-10 at the University of Oxford (2009-2010). She then spent five years (2010-2015) as the Chief of the Protection Policy and Legal Advice Section at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In January 2016, she took up the position of Head of the Secretariat for the Convention against Torture Initiative (CTI) who are working towards achieving universal ratification and implementation of the Convention against Torture by 2024.
