Biography
I joined the department in September 2022, having previously taught Christian doctrine at Sarum College, Salisbury, and undertaken a year's study of architecture. Prior to that I studied theology at the University of Cambridge, from which I took my doctorate in 2021. My thesis, titled 'A Theological exploration of the shape of life and death in conversation with the biographical works of Gregory of Nyssa', probed the anthropological implications of Gregory's mystical 'doctrine' of 'epektasis' through a study of three biographies.
Expertise Summary
My specialism lies in Christian theology, with an especial interest in theologies which attempt to make sense of the shape, purpose, and complexity of human lives. This interest has led me to attend to works of 'mystical' theology across the Christian tradition, particularly those of Julian of Norwich and Simone Weil, in addition to Gregory of Nyssa. More recently, I have experimented by bringing artistic and architectural sources into conversation around this cluster of interests.
