I began teaching at the University of Nottingham while completing my PhD and took up a full-time position in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies in 2012 teaching biblical languages and on the Bible and culture, as well as being undergraduate admissions tutor. In 2015 I was appointed to develop a new foundation year entry route for the Faculty of Arts, which welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2016. Since then almost 100 foundation year students have gone on to study on a range of degree courses in the Faculty of Arts.
I am an HEA Senior Fellow.
I am a contributor to the Bibledex series of videos, which give a short insight into each book of the Bible from a range of perspectives.
Current Research
The subject of my PhD was the 'new song' of the New Testament book of Revelation and the tradition and theology of eschatological singing. Since then I have developed my research on the use of music in the Bible and the early church, and the use of the Bible in the Arts and popular culture (especially music). As director of the Faculty of Arts Foundation Year, my research has focused on the question 'what makes for excellent teaching?' as well as topics in widening participation and transition into Higher Education.
