Dark Histories at Lenton Priory – a twilight tour with Dr Henry Parkes

Lenton Priory was Nottingham’s largest and richest medieval monastery. Situated within the footprint of the old church building, this outdoor evening talk will explore the often-ignored role of night and darkness in medieval monastic life, from the priory’s foundation in the twelfth century to its gory end under Henry VIII.
The talk will also feature live musical illustrations. It is hosted by Dr Henry Parkes from the Department of Music who has expertise in the musical and religious cultures of early medieval Europe.
The talk will take place in the garden of the Boat Inn, Priory Street. This is a short walk from the university grounds.
Weather-appropriate clothing advised. Duration c. 30 mins.
