Virtually Inaccessible: Nottingham's Sandstone Caves
Hidden beneath the city of Nottingham are over 500 man-made sandstone caves, ranging in date from medieval to the modern.
Dr David Strange-Walker, project manager of the English Heritage-funded Nottingham Caves Survey, will discuss the history and geology of the caves, showing examples of some of them. He will then go on to explain the work of the survey, showing how cutting-edge technology is being used to provide virtual and location-based access to caves which are otherwise impossible to visit.
Admission: £5 including coffee and biscuits in the interval.
The Local History Seminars are organised by the University of Nottingham's Department of History and are held on the second Saturday of the month at Lenton Grove - where the Department of History is based.
