A talk by Dr Richard Gaunt as part of the Remembering Wartime Thoresby Exhibition, 7-20 October, 10.30 - 5.00.
Thoresby Park and Hall were requisitioned by the army during WW 2 and local historians are fascinated by the impact on this area of Sherwood Forest. The regiments at Thoresby Park and Hall were originally recorded in watercolour by artist, Marie Louise Roosevelt Pierrepont and visitors to the Pierrepont Collection have been inspired to research their family histories. Volunteers from this Heritage Lottery funded project have uncovered 10 fascinating stories including military anecdotes, the air raid warden’s story and the effects on local people and the landscape.
