Tokyo Shinbun front page

Together with two co-translators (one pictured right, Julie Carpenter) Andrew Cobbing appeared in the leading article on the front page of the Tokyo Shinbun newspaper on 14 January 2013 (a leading Tokyo newspaper). The article recognised his work in translating the multi volume Saka no Ue no Kumo (Clouds Above the Hill) by famous Japanese historian Shiba Ryotaro.

The book is seen roughly as an equivalent to a Japanese War and Peace, tracing the story of two brothers and their friends against the backcloth of major events, culminating in the major battles of the Russo-Japanese War 1904-5. The first two volumes have now been published – Andrew's contribution, the fourth and final volume with all the major battle scenes including the sinking of the Russian Baltic Fleet, is due to published in December this year.
