The Department of History is delighted to welcome Dr Roberta Cimino who has joined as Leverhulme Early Career Fellow.
Roberta was recently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Frankfurt. Her research focusses on the political and economic structures of early medieval Italy. The project investigates the royal fisc, the landed wealth controlled by the rulers of Italy from c. 774 to 962.
The analysis of royal estates and how they were administered aims to cast light on the relationship between rulers, aristocracies and local communities. The project will also reassess the impact that historical turning points, such as the dissolution of the Carolingian empire in 888, had on the evolution of the political landscape, thus providing a comprehensive picture of the major developments in the politics and economics of the Italian kingdom.
