Jeremy Taylor on the Chinese cultural Cold War

Jeremy Taylor’s new article on the politics of Chinese opera in China and Southeast Asia during the Cold War has just been published in the journal Twentieth-Century China

'Lychees and Mirrors: Local Opera, Cinema, and Diaspora in the Chinese Cultural Cold War' explores the fate of a southern Fujianese opera (liyuanxi) play that was reformed in the People's Republic of China over the course of the early 1950s and eventually made into the first full-length film to be produced in southern Fujianese dialect (Minnanyu) in the People's Republic of China. The article can be found here.
