Applications are invited for the above post based at the Department of History in the School of Humanities. The successful applicant will be joining the ERC-funded 'Cultures of Occupation in Twentieth Century Asia' (COTCA) Project, led by Dr Jeremy E. Taylor. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking research in Stream 1 ('Representations of Occupation') in COTCA. He/she must also undertake a case study on 'Representations of occupation' and/or 'Visual histories of occupation' in 20th century East or Southeast Asia. A research plan (no more than 2,000 words in length), in which the candidate provides details of this case study (e.g., research questions, sources, methodologies, etc), its projected outcomes, and the ways in which it would fit with the aims of the COTCA Project more generally, must be submitted with the application.
The successful candidate will have access to approximately 6,000 euros in travel and subsistence costs for fieldwork, funding for making publications produced from and during the project Open Access (Gold Route), and funding for some travel to international conferences during the project.
Candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., cultural history, visual cultures, Asian studies, art history etc) or be close to completion of such a PhD. He/she must speak, read and write English fluently. He/she must have experience of building and/or maintaining digital archives or similar Digital Humanities projects. He/she must have experience of conducting research in the field of visual cultures, visual history (or related field), and must have experience of conducting research in or related to East or Southeast Asia. The candidate should preferably already have published in outlets of high quality (or have had work accepted for publication in such outlets). The candidate should preferably have had experience in organising international workshops and/or conferences.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract from 01 September 2019 to 28 February 2021. Hours of work are full-time.
