Time is not an objective backdrop to politics. It is itself the subject of politics. When they tell stories about the past or point to the urgency of a particular ‘crisis’, politicians are trying to impose a meaning on time. It is necessary, then, for scholars of politics to study the way political actors understand and frame their pasts, presents and futures. This research project explores this dimension of politics by reassessing key moments in contemporary British history.
This research is funded by a grant from the British Academy.
