Contempt in the public sphere

A bi-weekly series of virtual workshops

July 2020

Dr. Zach Hoskins and Professor Joan Woolfrey (West Chester University) will co-organise an online workshop in July, titled 'Contempt in the Public Sphere.'

The event consists of bi-weekly online meetings throughout the month at which participants discussed their research on elements of contempt in our politics and public life. Participants explore the effects of contempt on public discourse, the racial dimensions of contempt, and when (if ever) contempt can be a justified response to injustice.

Along with Hoskins and Woolfrey, presenters include:

  • Michelle Mason Bizri (University of Minnesota)
  • Krista Thomason (Swarthmore College)
  • Yolonda Wilson (Howard University)
  • Beth Sperry (William Jewell College)
  • Karen Stohr (Georgetown University)
  • Janice Moskalik (University of Washington)
