Re-housing the Department of Theology and Religious Studies

From 1 August 2024 academic staff, students, and degree programmes in the University of Nottingham Department of Theology and Religious Studies will be re-housed in the Department of Philosophy.

No staff are leaving because of this organisational change, nor are any BA, MA or PhD programmes in the field of theology and religious studies being closed as a result of it. The Department of Philosophy will not change its name.

Close ties already exist between the two Departments, with two joint honours degree programmes running between them and several staff working in related areas of research. The change will deliver important economies of scale, provide more opportunities for teaching and research, and enable greater collaboration in the development of the joint honours provision.
