The Postgraduate Teaching Award is an annual award to recognise and celebrate examples of innovative teaching and support of learning. Tarah's innovation in teaching is evident in her creative delivery of Jewish studies seminars, as she includes surprising sources of media to immerse her students into the subject at hand. Examples this spring included video-recorded street interviews in Palestine and Israel as “live” applications in a seminar on ethnic and religious identity. She also took advantage of the library's digital archive of British newspapers to help situate students inside the British perception of Hitler's threat to Jews in 1932 as it was played out in reports. Tarah's support of student learning is evident in her commitment to Biblical Hebrew students, as she runs an informal blog dedicated to the class to aid their work when they are outside the classroom.
The award for next year will be publicised in early 2016.
