Biography

Prior to joining the University of Nottingham, I completed my BSc in Mathematics and Philosophy, and MA in Philosophy at Durham University. I began my PhD here in 2021 exploring a critical analysis of microaggressions, supervised by Dr Koshka Duff and Professor Chris Woodard.

Current Research

Microaggressions are broadly understood to be seemingly harmless comments and behaviours that in fact send hidden negative messages, usually unintentionally, to marginalised people. Although seemingly subtle and innocuous, they in fact constitute an oppressive social practice that should be resisted.

My PhD research is informed by various critical traditions, including critical race theory, Black and decolonial feminisms, and queer theory, in order to address 3 main research questions:

  1. What are microaggressions?
  2. Why are they morally and politically significant?
  3. How should we deal with them?
