Biography

Jon started at Nottingham in 2010 and is currently Senior Tutor in Philosophy and TRS.

Teaching Summary

This year Jon is teaching a second year module in the philosophy of art and a third year module in environmental ethics.

In the past Jon has taught a wide variety of modules in most of the central areas of analytic philosophy. He is also experienced in teaching professional ethics to students from non-philosophy backgrounds.

Research Summary

Jon's current research focuses primarily on the epistemology of aesthetic (and more broadly normative) judgements and, in particular, on the debate over the nature and value of aesthetic testimony.… read more

Current Research

Jon's current research focuses primarily on the epistemology of aesthetic (and more broadly normative) judgements and, in particular, on the debate over the nature and value of aesthetic testimony. He has also published on a range of other topics including the philosophy of comics and videogames, the evil of death, the relationship of God to possible worlds, and the metaphysics of composition.

Jon has research interests in aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, and the philosophy of religion.

Past Research

Jon was previously employed as AHRC postdoctoral fellow for the project 'Method in Philosophical Aesthetics: the challenge from the sciences'. His PhD thesis examined the ethical implications of metaphysical theories of time and modality.
