University Philharmonia Conductor Vacancy

Fixed-term contract (September 2024-June 2025)

The University of Nottingham seeks a Conductor for University Philharmonia for the 2024/25 academic year. Comprising students, staff and alumni, the orchestra will rehearse weekly on Tuesdays, 6.30-9pm in the Department of Music on the beautiful grounds of University Park. This is an exciting time to join the University’s flagship music ensembles’ team in the second year of the unique partnership between the BBC Concert Orchestra, Nottingham Trent University, and University of Nottingham.

The successful applicant will rehearse and conduct University Philharmonia in a minimum of two concerts, head audition panels for all prospective players, soloists and student conductors, and mentor student assistant conductors. They will be a member of the University Philharmonia Steering Committee of staff and students who will select repertoire and confirm concert engagements for the orchestra. They will help support and shape the development of the orchestra’s profile in response to shifting student needs and cultural landscape.
