Dr Joy Spiliopoulos
Dr Joy Spiliopoulos, School of International Studies, UNNC, presented her research work at the annual Medical Sociology (British Sociological Association) conference 'MedSoc month' and at the Doctors Within Borders workshop 'Healthcare on the Move – Future Directions', in September 2021. The MedSoc paper titled 'The healthcare workforce - recruitment, development and retention in Southeast Asia and a globalised world' was a joint presentation with collaborators from the Universities of: Nottingham; Utrecht; and Philippines Diliman.
The DwB workshop paper titled 'Migrant healthcare workers at the eye of the cyclone – structural inequalities and increased risks' brought together findings from previous projects and anecdotal data from the height of the pandemic in 2020 and effects on migrant healthcare workers, highlighting their vulnerability during the pandemic. Both papers were well received, with the MedSoc conference attracting academics from across Europe and beyond and DwB attracting academics and practitioners from across the world.

Dr Roda Madziva presented a paper titled: ‘Diaspora investment and complex transnational care arrangements among diaspora women: The case study of Zimbabwean women in the UK at the MIGREC Migration Development seminar (online), Sheffield University, 26th October 2021.
Professor Tracey Warren
Professor Tracey Warren delivered a Work-line balance seminar as part of the Festival of Social Sciences, 5 to 6 pm, 9 November.
