ILA Seminar Series with Professor Pavel Sturma, Charles University in Prague
The International Law Commission (ILC), a body charged with 'progressive development' of international law, has had profound impact on the doctrine and practice of international law, not least by its influential work on the law of treaties, state responsibility, and, more recently, crimes against humanity. However, how do the ILC's articles, conclusions, guidelines and other documents come into being? What are the dynamics behind the scenes, what interests are at play, and who exercises power and how?
In this seminar, Professor Pavel Sturma, a long-time ILC member and the ILC's former Chair, will reflect on the ILC's inner workings and its effects on the ILC's outputs.
