American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting 2019

Dr Catherine Appleton and Professor Dirk Van Zyl Smit attended the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting 2019, and participated in various panels.

The main reason for the trip was to attend an 'Authors Meet Critics' session to discuss and debate the issues raised in their book Life Imprisonment: A Global Human Rights Analysis.

The session was organised and hosted by Christopher Seeds, University of California, Irvine, and the panel of critics were: Franklin Zimring (Berkeley School of Law), Jonathan Simon (Berkeley School of Law), Michael Tonry (University of Minnesota Law School) and Ashley Nellis (The Sentencing Project).
