The School of Law's quality and strength in teaching and providing a supportive and friendly student experience has been recognised once again. It has been announced that Dr Edward Goodwin (Associate Professor and Co-Director of Undergraduate Studies) is to receive one of this year’s prestigious Lord Dearing awards.

The Lord Dearing awards acknowledge and reward University staff members that have made a world-class contribution towards enhancing the student learning experience. 150 nominations from across the University were received for this award in 2018/19, which triggered a rigorous process involving additional feedback from students and staff, review of student evaluation of teaching, and external peer review of teaching practice. In the light of this, the University’s Education and Student Experience Committee approved the judge’s recommendations for this year’s winners.

Dr Goodwin teaches on Land Law, Trusts and International Environmental Law, and provides lectures to second year undergraduate students studying Land Law. In relation to the latter, students have been particularly complimentary about Dr Goodwin’s enthusiasm and approachability, the content and delivery of those lectures, and the innovative use of animated videos available online that reinforce the subject matter of lectures. Dr Goodwin has also been heavily involved with student pastoral care provision, and staff/student community activities within the school.

Dr Goodwin will receive the Lord Dearing Award at this July’s Graduation Ceremony. He joins current staff members Dr Richard Hyde, Mr Christopher Bevan, and Professors Di Birch, Peter Cartwright, and Sue Arrowsmith as a Lord Dearing Award recipient.
