Many congratulations are due to the University of Nottingham Law Society for winning the awards for "Student Law Society of the Year" and "Most Committed to Increasing Diversity" at the LawCareers.Net Student Law Society Awards 2019.
President of the Student Law Society Vincent Fraser said: "it is an honour for myself and the Committee to be recognised for all our hard work over the past year. We have put diversity at the forefront of all of our activities this year, and were recognised for the establishment of our student-led 'Diversity Council' as well as the expansion of our Diversity series. Sponsors of the Best Law Society Award recognised us for our close relations with over 40 leading law firms, and our all-encompassing approach to improving employability and broadening the horizons of our members socially and professionally. A special note was made for our Annual Careers Dinner, where we had 22 leading international law firms in attendance this year: the largest of its kind in the country."
The judges said: "We were blown away by the work of this society across the board. Particularly, we were impressed by the ways in which the society consistently and proactively supports its members in pursuing a career in law. From engagement and events, to the systems put in place to support its members from all backgrounds, subjects and year groups, the society has clearly created an environment in which students can learn, develop and prosper."
Professor Peter Cartwright, Deputy Head of the School of Law, said: "Like Nottingham's other law-focused societies, the Law Society plays a vital role in the life of the school. We are hugely proud that the Society has received this well-deserved award as well as extremely grateful for the excellent work that the societies do for students and the wider communities that they serve."
