Dr Or Bassok recently published an op-ed in the Times of Israel in memory of Professor Ruth Gavison – a leading political and legal theorist – who recently passed away. Gavison – who wrote her dissertation at Oxford under the supervision of HLA Hart – was one of the founders of the Israeli Association for Civil Rights in the 1970s and was the President of the organization between 1996 and 1998. She wrote seminal works on the right to privacy, the definition of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and on the role of courts in democracies. The op-ed discusses an issue that is relevant also to the UK: the distinction between people of “anywhere” and people of “somewhere”.
The op-ed “Ruth Gavison, Gadi Taub and the Israeli Academia” can be accessed here.
