On 10 February, Peter Cartwright, Professor of Consumer Protection Law, participated in a conference on Driving Fair Outcomes for Vulnerable Consumers across UK Markets at the Wellcome Collection, London.
The Conference was organised by the United Kingdom Regulators Network (UKRN), which is a network formed by 11 of the UK’s sectoral regulators including the Financial Services Authority, Ofcom, Ofgem and the Legal Services Board.
The event focused on how research has been and can be used to understand the consumer journey and improve outcomes for consumers in vulnerable circumstances. It also sought to identify further collaboration to improve the experiences and outcomes of vulnerable consumers with particular emphasis on the use of data.
Peter is the author of a number of academic articles in this area and was commissioned by the Financial Services Research Forum to produce reports on The Vulnerable Consumer of Financial Services: Law Policy and Regulation; and Fairness, Financial Services and the Consumer in an Age of Principles-Based Regulation. He is currently working (with Professor Richard Hyde) on a study into the regulation of Online Behavioural Advertising, another area of particular concern to vulnerable consumers.
