Dr Aris Georgopoulos was recently interviewed by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) about his research on the COVID19 procurement response as well as the Innovate UK funded project, in which his UoN team participates, to create a comprehensive supply chain network for the NHS using Artificial Intelligence. Dr Georgopoulos argued that emergency stockpiling of critical medical supplies is a key factor for improved response outcomes in future crises but it needs to be organised in an efficient way in order to avoid producing unnecessary waste. Collaboration within the UK (NHS England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales and the HSC in Northern Ireland) as well as with other countries (in the EU and beyond) is important. He also underlined the significance of the development of new technological solutions using Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analysis in order to map the market landscape - like the Innovate UK project his team together with the teach start up Vamstar and the University of Sheffield, are currently working on.
