John Buckley obtained his BA and MA in law from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a solicitor at Eversheds, a company commercial firm in Nottingham. He worked as a legal adviser in the Magistrates' Court for most of his professional career and was appointed as the Justices' Clerk for Warwickshire in 2005. He was appointed as the Assistant Coroner for Coventry and Warwickshire in April 2012, a role he undertook until summer 2019. He is an Associate of the Institute of Personnel and Development and has undertaken professional training of solicitors in criminal and family law. He has worked part time at the University of Nottingham since October 2012 and at Nottingham Trent University since September 2014 teaching criminal and public law. He also works part time with the Nottingham Youth Offending Team. He was appointed as a Teaching Associate at the University of Nottingham in September 2019.
