The School of Mathematical Sciences open day programme is explained in more detail below. We have a lot of activities and talks for you to attend as well as opportunities to talk with members of our academic staff and current undergraduate students.

Why Mathematics? Why Nottingham?

This popular talk covers why maths is so important, what career paths it opens and reasons to study it at Nottingham.

Explaining the concept of probability using the game of roulette as an example. Visitors will be able to take part in this demonstration by actually playing the game of roulette without having to risk any financial loss.

Learn a systematic method (algorithm) for solving the famously frustrating mathematical puzzle.

Taster Maths Problems

Come to our drop-in session and try some mathematical problems - if you get stuck, some current students will be on hand to help you out and discuss the finer points.

Maths Trail

The Maths Trail is an opportunity to try and solve numerous mathematical problems located on posters throughout the building. Hand in your completed trail sheet for a chance to win a prize.

Take a tour with our student helpers to see where, as a Mathematical Sciences student, you would spend a lot of your academic life.
