We are an independent business unit wholly owned by the University of Nottingham. We deliver effective and efficient services to industry to support the industrialisation of power electronic converters, electrical machines and drives. At Nottingham we have a long history of being at the forefront of Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) research and development.
We provide you access to all our expertise, the extensive national and international academic and industry networks and our world-class facilities to accelerate the industrialisation of your PEMD products.
Our services:
We provide bespoke development and testing of electrical motors and drives.
We provide motor testing and characterisation at a range of powers and speeds, environmental testing, dynamic axial loading as well as HV and high-power battery emulation.
We are also able to provide bespoke development solutions with access to over 170 world-leading PEMD specialists. Our expertise spans electrical machines and power electronics design and modelling, mechanical and thermal engineering of rotating machines, control of electrical drives and test and validation.

- High power test cells (5MW & 2MW)
- Altitude environmental test cells (500kW)
- High speed test cells (up to 120krpm)
- Magnetic materials characterisation equipment
- Power supplies and energy storage emulation up to 3MVA, variable DC and variable voltage and frequency AC
- Test solutions for automotive traction, aircraft generators, actuators and propulsion systems
- Needle winders for concentrated and distributed wound stators
- Litz- and flat-wound coils
- Advanced hairpin windings including continuous and variable cross-section
- Stator assembly, VPI and insulation characterisation
