Literary, performance and visual cultures

While studies in literary culture is well established field of research, visual studies has developed around the idea that postmodernism is dominated by the visual representation of meaning which marks its fundamental break with a modernity dominated by textuality. Our aim is to bring them together in order to study critically and analyse literary and visual culture from a social-historical perspective, to relate literary and cultural theory to visual culture, and to investigate the connections between cultural productions, critical theory, and society. We focus on interdisciplinary approach and stress the close interpretation of artistic production within historical and cultural frameworks.

Research on literary and visual cultures includes:

  • research into literary and visual imagination, in relation to the construction of social, political, historical and national identities
  • research into poetics of literary, film and stage narratives and performance
  • research into intellectual history and literary and cultural theories
  • research into cultural translation and gender studies
