How does it work?

After a year of successful public engagement and outreach based at the nmRC, we want to showcase electron microscopy to even more young people across Nottinghamshire! Under the Microscope LIVE is an interactive initiative based on bringing electron microscopy directly to the classroom.

The project prioritises student involvement by asking for suggestions of objects to be imaged in advance of the live session (via a video call), ensuring that the microscopy content is then relevant and captivating for the participants. There would be 3 sessions (2 interactive, 1 presentation) in total.

Step1
An online discussion with the class explaining the concept of electron microscopy and asking for sample suggestions.

Step2

Live electron microscopy in the classroom of the suggested samples.

Step3

An image that was taken during the session will be turned into a canvas, and presented to the class as a lasting memory of the experience.
