Nutrition in Wound Healing
Resource to help raise awareness of the role of nutrition in wound healing
Nutrients
A nutrient is a chemical substance that affects metabolic processes in the body. Nutrients are essential for growth, reproduction and maintenance of good health (Anderson, Keith, Novak, and Elliot, 2002).
In order to promote good nutrition, the nurse must:
- Be aware of the various nutrients and foods which they are contained in.
- Know what role they play in the body.
- Be able to recognise signs of deficiency or overdose so that they can be addressed.
